The idea of student @gabri_helo and his team, consisting of @_luciabattipaglia_ and Gianluca Canzolino, was awarded the @idealo_it innovators’ grant totaling 6,000 euros.

The idea consists of an innovative mobile application-named “Skinner”-that harnesses the power of machine learning to detect scalp diseases, provide customized solutions, and connect users with medical professionals.

Thanks to SEIUNISA, Gabriele and his team will establish their startup WholeTech and carry out the product development activities that are essential to turn their idea into reality!

@alfred.assistants, one of the startups selected for the A.L.I. Grant, was chosen to participate in the Selection Day of @styleitaccelerator, accelerator of the National Network @group_cdp , on May 30 in Florence!

After evaluating more than 1,600 startups in FashionTech and LuxuryTech from around the world, Alfred was recognized among the Top 25 because of their idea: an AI-based virtual assistant system integrator that aims to optimize industrial production processes.

The idea of students Generoso Giuseppe Tirone, Armando Zambella and Giovanni Sullutrone, selected for the A.L.I. SEIUNISA Grants, was one of the 5 realities to receive final recognition at the @devel.hope and @amazon.it entrepreneurial bootcamp of the Amazon Supply Chain and Technology Incubator program!

Vivi aims to innovate the wine industry through an electronic device connected to a mobile app, optimizing bottle shelf life and enhancing product value.

Cultivating emerging talent and innovative ideas. These are the two pillars of the mission of Seiunisa (Student Entrepeneurship & Innovation), a program supported and funded by Salerno University, managed by the Salerno University Foundation and aimed at its students to help them turn their ideas into real business realities. “We started two years ago with an original concept,” expounds Roberto Parente, professor in charge of the project. “The university reinvests its resources, about 1 million euros for the first year, to foster creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial development. The opportunity is open equally to all those enrolled in the university, who, once they pass the call, will have the opportunity to network with key players in the world of innovation, such as experts and possible investors.”

The three steps of the project

The initiative is unique and original of its kind and, as the rector of the University of Salerno, Vincenzo Loia, declares, “sees the university among the first to respond to the need of young people to undertake paths of autonomous entrepreneurship. Students are a potential and our region has always stood out for the number of innovative startups. The project wants to enhance this, starting to build concrete opportunities that can provide space for creativity and expression, also thanks to the million euros made available from the university’s resources for the first year.” The Seiunisa plan is developed in three steps: the first, reserved for 50 students, is enhanced with 120 hours of intensive training activities, including methodological workshops and technology labs, plus financial support of 3 thousand euros; the second, which is called Innovation community, which allows-again after an initial training phase-teams of students accompanied by an innovator (with specific skills and experience) to apply with an actual business model and then compete in a pitch competition in the presence of leading figures in the world of entrepreneurship; and finally, the third program is reserved for those who actually want to get a startup off the ground.

Students’ ideas

“In Seiunisa’s first year, 14 started,” says Professor Parente, “which were provided with incorporation costs, such as the notarial deed, and a 5,000 euro incentive for a validation path made up of market research, participation in innovation events and prototype development. This is the case with Alfred, which aims to develop intelligent solutions to optimize production processes and facilitate services in complex and critical environments. “It is a system integrator of virtual assistants based on artificial intelligence,” explains co-founder Stefano Bini. “We envisioned its application in the education sector, so that it becomes a virtual professor supporting both the student, helping him or her to expound in a kind of questioning but without the pressure of judgment, and the teacher, who can identify the topics on which classes have the most gaps. Seiunisa also gave birth to Bioentesis, focused on producing instruments to improve the outcome of surgeries that reconstruct ligaments. “To do this kind of operation,” co-founder Giacomo Cortella expounds, “screws are needed to hold the ligament together with the bone, which often does not integrate perfectly with the human body. Our idea is to make a functionalized collagen matrix enriched with a biological signal and the patient’s own stem cells to improve screw integrations.”

Building the future

The pivotal concept that led to the founding of the Seiunisa project is simple: “The future does not wait, it must be built from the very beginning.” These are the words of Rector Loia, who reiterates how Salerno University’s campuses are committed “to being the catalyst for creative minds, supporting the development of young people’s entrepreneurial potential and thus contributing to innovation on a global scale. We understand that the future of innovation is not confined to single geographic areas or specific sectors. Therefore, our goal is to create an environment where students can learn from national excellence and dialogue with international realities while cementing their own ideas of technological and cultural innovation.”

A new call for proposals under the SEIUNISA (Student Entrepreneurship & Innovation at UNISA) platform, a program of the University and coordinated by the Unisa Foundation, was presented in the Pecoraro Lecture Hall of the University of Salerno.

Entitled “Athenaeum Innovation Lab – A.L.I.,” the new call aims to support teams of students, including with an initial economic contribution of 5,000 euros, in the design, development and validation of innovative entrepreneurial projects and in the in-progress implementation of start-ups. It stands in ideal continuity with the first two calls, “Innovators” and “Innovation Community,” which were highly successful and widely attended by students, entrepreneurs and professionals through workshops, hands-on labs, pitch competitions and Study Tours to connect with advanced innovation ecosystems such as Seoul and Boston.

“Students are a great potential for innovation,” said University of Salerno Magnificent Chancellor Vincenzo Loia, “SEIUNISA wants to be an opportunity for them to experiment, grow and compare. The University makes a financial commitment to enhance these talents and ensure that they can approach the world of innovation and technology transfer as early as during their student experience. Because of its strong impact in the growth of young people and the local area, we will reintroduce the SEIUNISA pathway again next year.”

“SEIUNISA,” continued Professor Antonio Piccolo, President of the University of Salerno University Foundation, “enables the growth of young people but also of the territory through the enhancement of talents and their innovative ideas. SEIUNISA students have experienced significant innovation realities such as those in the United States and South Korea. Now, the hope is that they will be able to formalize their ideas. On the part of the Unisa Foundation, there will be maximum organizational and administrative support in the establishment of start-ups.”

With the ALI Grant, the UNISA student startups, will be able to concretely develop the validation and development activities of their Business Model typical of the pre-seed phase and thus first of all, refinement of the innovative Value proposition through market research, meetings with experts, prototyping of the product/service, and defining potential partnerships for future developments.

“The Ateneo Laboratorio di Innovazione – A.L.I. call for proposals,” specified Professor Roberto Parente, SEIUNISA Program Coordinator and member of the CTS, “closes this first year of SEIUNISA activities by giving concrete and economic support to students who want to start their own start-ups. In recent months we have been working along various lines with a single goal: to enable young people to become protagonists of innovation with their own business ideas. Now, thanks to the GRANT A.L.I. announcement, ideee innovative projects will be able to become real start-ups. Evaluation criteria will be based on adequacy of team skills, originality, innovativeness, coherence and sustainability of the start-up idea-project, and the potential impact of the idea-project validation plan on the future development of the start-up.”

“With SEIUNISA,” the professors recounted. Massimo De Santo e Marcello Persico, CTS members-the University of Salerno has been at the forefront nationally and internationally and has demonstrated how good and innovative ideas can be born and promote change in society even when they are developed during the initial stages of one’s education. The third GRANT A.L.I. call provides initial funding of 5 thousand euros to support the validation and establishment costs of start-ups.”

Teams applying will be mentored by SEIUNISA mentors as well as the entire ecosystem consisting of Evangelists and entrepreneurs who have declared their support for the development of the most promising startups.

Spurred on by the experiences of the founders of the largest Korean companies such as Samsung, LG and GS, the students immersed themselves with dedication and curiosity in the study and discussion activities at theICSB Academy, delving into the concept of K-Entrepreneurship and discovering the different ways of understanding entrepreneurship depending on the country in which you operate.

After visiting Sungshin University in Seoul and the K-Entrepreneurship Center in Jinju, the Innovators attended a K-startup exhibition at the KFJ Convention Center in Gwangju touching base with the region’s entrepreneurial and university ecosystem.

They then moved to the Gwangju Content Cube, where they experienced firsthand the grandeur of cutting-edge technologies such as facial capture and motion capture.

Every moment was constructive and valuable for broadening one’s horizons and challenging oneself. A great opportunity was the chance to constantly work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams in the development of their business idea presented at the concluding Pitch Competition of that Korean experience.

7 teams and lots of students from the U.S., Germany, Italy, Indonesia and Korea came together to propose their vision and idea of innovation, and SEIUNISA returned home with great successes in its suitcase. The winner, in fact, was the group with SEIUNISA Innovators Teresa Abbagnale, Gaetano De Rosa and Mario Saporoso with “Nutrineeds – Food fit for you.”

Innovation and sustainability-these are the themes that the three projects awarded prizes at the end of the Pitch Competition of SEIUNISA’s Innovation Community call for entries focused on.

On Wednesday, June 28, at the University of Salerno’s Science and Technology Campus Library, 28 multidisciplinary teams showcased their business ideas to Evangelists and entrepreneurs from the SEIUNISA ecosystem, the student culture of innovation and entrepreneurship platform created by UNISA with the collaboration of the University Foundation.

“The science library spaces were enlivened by the energy of so many young people ,” said Professor Roberto Parente, Student Entrepreneurship Delegate and SEIUNISA CTS member – 165 students, from different departments of the University of Salerno, had the opportunity to come together in good teams to have the right skills and strength such that they could make their business idea something concrete. We engaged Evangelists and entrepreneurs to provide projects with constructive criticism. The final balance is more than positive.”

Award-winning projects

After a morning of discussion, in which the world of the university opened up to the world of business, three business projects were awarded. In first place was “Vivi,” a project that combines innovation and tradition in an electronic device that can be installed on wine bottles, such that the product can be poured and tasted without having to open the bottles and recondition them.

The second awardee was “HydroGrowth3D,” the entrepreneurial idea that aims to reduce the exploitation of soil and waste of water resources through hydroponic cultivation and the development of technological sensors and aquators. A totally 3D printed, customizable and scalable product.

Third place for “BetterGush,” an innovative water bottle that allows it to be filled not only from classic downward-jet water sources, but also from gushing fountains. This allows for the reduction of plastic bottles and an upgrade of commercially available water bottles. All including an app to geolocate water sources in one’s territory.

“It was a dynamic day, exactly as we expected,” said Mariaelisa Nappi, SEIUNISA tutor – We put our young people at the center, who were able to enthusiastically present their projects, each with a very innovative and interesting vision concerning a wide variety of fields. Our commitment will continue to be to support young people in their ideas.”
